Gardenal (phenobarbital) may cause excessive thirst which may lead to excessive urination. Another side effect is lethargy which could affect how often he defecates. There are no foods or medications that will help with these side effects. The good news is that these side effects may decrease or disappear over time. You do have the option of using a different anti-seizure medication. Discuss options with your veterinarian or a veterinary neurologist. Given his age, other causes (liver disease, low blood sugar) should be ruled out. Phenobarbital takes about 2 weeks to reach therapeutic blood levels, so Kiku should be closely monitored by your veterinarian.
