Why does my dog's amputated tail bleed when he wags or shakes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 7 years and 10 months old | 92 lbs

Hi my dog recently had a partial amputation of the tip of his tail. He has a bandage on, the morning after he wagged his tail a lot and it started to seep through the bandage. Went back to fed and she redressed it with more padding. It didn’t seem to be bleeding in the vets when she rebandaged it. Fine the rest of the day then this morning it happened again, just a few drops and only when he wags his tail or shakes. Again twice today there have been a few drops. Is it the force making the blood

The force is making the bleeding occur. My Golden had to have a tail amputation due to a malignant tumor, and she would wag her stub all the time, leading to bleeding and seeping. Keep the bandage on and try to keep Chester as calm as possible. which is hard with a Golden! I hope this helps!
