My dog has a cut she keeps scratching. Could it be allergies or yeast?

Should we see a veterinarian? London is a female boxer who has a cut she continues to make larger by scratching it. We went to petco to buy a cone but they didn’t have one. Guy at pet smart said to contact you might be allergies or yeast infection in her ear. Can you help?

London should see the veterinarian. That looks really inflamed. That could be due to many things including allergies, a one time bacterial or yeast infection, trauma or a hotspot. You may try to find a cone at another pet store as that is needed regardless of the cause. You must stop her from scratching at it since that will only make it worse. Set up an appointment to be seen with your veterinarian. I hope this helps and she starts feeling better quickly.

Its hard to tell what it is from the picture. I have commonly seen yeast and bacterial infections in that area which commonly cause itching. I would try some benadryl twice a day and a medicated wipes like miconahex wipes twice a day to see if it helps. If it isnt improving, especially since it has been going on for a year, I would have your vet take a look. She may need some oral meds and stronger allergy meds to help her heal. I hope this helps! https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/
