My dog got Lysol in its eye. Should I rinse it? Will it go blind?

Help! My mom accidentally got a little bit of Lysol in my dog’s eye about twenty minutes ago and didn’t know to flush them out. She said it was a really small amount. Apparently she had some liquid on her hands and accidentally touched his eyes. Can this cause blindness?? Does it matter how much gets in the eye? Is it too late to rinse them now? Thanks

Hi there. You could certainly go ahead and rinse Rocket's eye with some plain saline eye wash now, if you have some - it won't hurt anything, and might help if there are still any traces of the Lysol present. The biggest concern with getting Lysol in the eye would be irritation or ulceration of the cornea (the clear surface of the eye), which is usually quite painful. If he's squinting in the affected eye, or if the eye appears red or is having any drainage, then I would recommend taking him to an emergency vet today to have it checked. If the eye looks normal, then it's likely that not enough Lysol came into contact with his eye to cause any problems, and you shouldn't need to worry.
