My dog is in heat and not peeing. Is this normal or concerning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shihpoo | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 16 days old | 12 lbs

I have a small dog (shipooh) that hasn't been spayed that appears to be just started the heat cycle. My concern is though, that she does not seem to have any interest in using the bathroom to pee or otherwise. Is this normal in early stages of going on heat? Should I be concerned?

This may be normal for her. I wouldn't be overly concerned unless you notice any of the following: * not eating/drinking for more than 24 hours * vaginal discharge that is green/yellow * not producing any urine for more than 24 hours Hope this helps. Best wishes.
