Is dog hair loss a side effect of anal gland meds like Clavamox?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Female | spayed | 8 years and 1 month old | 14 lbs

My dog recently had an impacted anal gland. The gland was looked at primary vet. They expressed as able. The gland is no longer swollen and we are currently giving clavamox 125mg and quellin 25mg every 12 hours. I am noticing significantly more hair loss than normal. I am not sure if this is a side effect of the medicine or sign of infection. Dog does not seem to lick/scratch as if bothered. I plan on taking in to out vet when they open Monday but hoping to get input sooner.

I wouldn’t expect to see hair loss secondary to Clavamox or Quellin. Excessive shedding can sometimes happen secondary to stress, or Pipa could have skin parasites or allergies. It sounds like a good idea to see your vet on Monday to have her skin examined.
