My dog is teething and in pain. Can I give them human pain medication?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Female | spayed | 3 months and 6 days old | 25 lbs

My Mia is teething really bad right now because she has some adult teeth coming in. She won’t eat, even her favorite items, she’s whining a lot and not sleeping. Bad timing for her to be on deworming medications... anywho, is there a pain relief medication that is safe for dogs to use to help with the pain? I know for humans ibuprofen and Tylenol help with pain but I’m not sure how it works for animals.

No, human pain medications are not safe for dogs. Many are toxic and can be fatal if given. If Mia is in a lot of pain, you need to take her into a vet immediately to get pain relief. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.
