Good afternoon, how long does it usually take for pumpkin to work for a constapated dog?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding T. Typically the pumpkin will help ease constipation within 12 hours of feeding it. It tends to be more effective in cats than dogs though in my experience. If it does not seem to help him, then I recommend that he sees his veterinarian for an examination. He may need fluid therapy, a prescription laxative or even an enema. I hope this information helps and he is feeling better soon!

Continue with the pumpkin at each feeding. As long as she’s not straining in the box you can wait until Monday to bring her in for an enema if she hasn’t pooped by then. I expect she’ll go within another 12 hours. I feed pumpkin to my older cat every day to prevent constipation.
