My dog has a fast-growing lip growth. Should I take her to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 11 months and 8 days old | 44 lbs

Hello. Figgy has developed what looks like a wort/ skin (gum) tag on her lip. Please see the pictures. It doesn't appear to be upsetting her, but it has appeared and grown quickly. Is this normal? Do we need take her to a vet to have it cut off?

Hello. You might want to have your vet take a look at this to make sure it is not a papilloma virus wart. This can be contagious to other young dogs, especially if Figgy goes to doggy day care or to the dog park. It may not need to be removed, more than likely it will regress on its own. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
