Why is my cat crying all night after rectal surgery? Is he in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 5 years and 3 months old | 12 lbs

Greg underwent an intense surgery to repair his rectum and colon that had both prolapsed, and remove a mass that was bulging out of his anus as well. He was doing better - after not eating or drinking - nor using his litter box - for almost three days, he's eating slowly, and urinating and passing small bouts of very loose stool. Last night though, he was crying and whine-meowing ALL night, no matter what I did, until this mid morning. I gave him an Onsior, but what could this be from etc?

I'm glad Greg is doing better! It could be he is painful, as he did have a major surgery. I would keep a close eye on him, and have him seen by a vet in the morning if he's still acting this way. Best of luck.
