Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 11 lbs
Our 13 year old Maine coon cat has breathing issues & has had blastomycosis since 2012. Tested positive 3 times, mostly just skin lesions until lately. Now breathes hard & coughs. Vet doesn't want to do a workup on him--too stressful, & suspects kidney & thyroid issues too. Our cat still eats well & uses litterbox. Vet will come to put him to sleep when needed, but that's all. How do we know when it's time? Need a 2nd opinion. I know that's not easy since you haven't examined him. but thanks.

It is such a hard decision to make! I work for a home euthanasia service, so I face this question with my clients all the time. I recommend looking at Pete's quality of life in order to make this decision. When a cat stops eating, is very lethargic, has trouble breathing, or just wants to sleep all the time, that is a sign their quality of life has decreased to a point where letting them go should be considered. I'm sorry you are facing this, but I hope this helps.
