My dog chewed carpet. Gums swollen, snout puffy. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 4 days old | 20 lbs

My dog was in her kennel and the bottom latch was undone. She got stressed and managed to chew the carpet near the small opening and now her gums are swollen and her snout looks really puffy. Does this solve itself? Should I give her anything or use something to clean her gums out? I think they were likely scratched since it's cheap carpeting in a college apartment.

Poor Rinko! I would have this checked out by a vet in the morning. I'm concerned that her gums are swollen and her snout is puffy. This is likely painful to her, and you cannot give her any human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. The vet can give her pain medications as needed. I hope this helps.
