My dog has a red bump on her eyelid. Is it a stye? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Female | spayed | 13 years and 10 months old | 40 lbs

My dog, Harley, developed a red bump over her eyelid yesterday. It seems to have gotten slightly bigger today. I tried a hot compress, but she isn’t very tolerant of it. Is it a stye? Or something more serious? Is there anything I can do at home to help her?

It could be a stye, but that is quite large. This is something that I feel needs to be checked out by a vet so it can be treated correctly. I would take Harley into the vet in the morning. Best of luck.

It could be that Adeline has a stye. I would try applying a warm compress to it a couple times a day for five minutes at a time to see if that encourages it to drain. If it doesn't improve by Monday, then I would have her seen by a vet.
