My dog has allergies, Benadryl isn't working. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Male | neutered | 2 years and 2 months old | 80 lbs

I think my dog has allergies. I’ve tried Benadryl and coconut oil on his red itchy red muzzle, but nothing seems to work and it’s been over a week. He consistently scratches and licks various parts, but vet concerned about his mouth are and eyes.

Poor Skyler! Since the Benadryl and coconut oil is not working, I recommend to call your veterinarian. The doctor has better and stronger medications to relieve the inflammation and can even address any underlying causes. Pets can have several types of allergies and the most common is environmental causes like pollen and dust mites. There are blood test that can be done to detect these allergens and then make a specific medication for Skyler. I hope this helps and that his skin starts looking better quickly. Please feel free to post any additional questions.
