My dog has hair loss and fleas. How to tell if it's allergy or mange?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 45 lbs

My labrador is having severe hair loss, he has been suffering from fleas. I just have a doubt whether he has this hair fall due to flea allergy dermatitis or it is some other condition like mange. I want to mention you that my labrador got Demodex mange at the age of 4 months and recovered completely from it by his 5th month. Can you tell me the key difference between mange and flea allergy?

It would be impossible to differential between mange and a flea allergy without seeing Bruno in person. A skin scraping would need to be done to diagnose if there are mites or not before it can be ruled out. I would take him into the vet to have this problem diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.
