My dog's breathing sounds chesty after dental surgery. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Terrier | Male | neutered | 13 years and 9 months old

My 14 year old dog went under anaesthetic earlier today to have teeth removed. Since coming home his breath sometimes catches and sounds very chesty like there’s mucus or something in his airways. is this anything to worry about?

Eddie's trachea could be irritated from the ET tube used during the dental procedure. Keep a close eye on him, and if this continues over the next 24 hours or he has trouble breathing, take him into a vet immediately. Best of luck.
