My canary's beak is dark and peeling. Is this normal after molting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Canary | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 3 months old

My canary's beak has started to get darker on the sides and has peeled a little on the edges. Is it a fungal infection or just him maturing. He is just over 2 years old and has recently finished his moult

Thanks for reaching out about Fitz. Sometimes the beak becomes dark with respiratory disease, as in blue coloration. Maturation can also lead to a darkening to brown color and should be normal. Continue to monitor and if progresses, a veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.
