My dog's mouth and chin are irritated. What are home remedies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Olde English Bulldogge | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 55 lbs

What are these red rashes around my dog’s mouth area? She has a history of pimples underneath her chin as well which went away shortly with prescribed steroids, however looks like her chin is starting to get irritated as well again. What could these skin irritations be, and how can I help treat this at home?

Those spots on Churro could be several things including allergies, a reaction to the plastic, mites or just a one time bacterial infection. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesions with soap once a day and rinse well (don't get soap/water in the nose or mouth). Protect the areas from licking or scratching. Change food/water bowels to glass or metal and wash once weekly. Wash all the chew toys once a week as well. If they don't start looking better within about a week or if they get worse, have her examined by her veterinarian who may prescribe medications. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.
