My dog has a red bumpy skin rash. How can I soothe it until the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jindo | Male | neutered | 2 years old | 40 lbs

Loki has a red bumpy rash on his inner thigh or tummy on both sides that comes and goes we have tried using hydrocortisone and it helped at first but recently he has started freaking out when we put it on and it doesn’t seem to help much, we do plan to take him to the vet but need something to help until the appointment comes up. Thanks.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Loki. I am glad that he is seeing his veterinarian. He may have a bacterial skin infection. This can happen for a variety of reasons, but allergies are a common cause. Has he been licking the area? This can make it worse. I recommend bathing him with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to help soothe his skin. Place an E-collar on him if he is licking. I hope this information helps!
