What's this horn-like growth on my dog's nail bed? Is it serious?

My dog has a growth happening at the base of his nail bed. At first it was very swollen but now it looks as if there is horns or something of that nature Wgrowing outward. Would like to know what it is. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 24 lbs

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This looks like a keratin horn- a “horn” made of the same stuff as the nail. Many times they are benign but I don’t like how the rest of the grown looks to be honest. I’d have your vet check it out as cancers can sometimes do this too. Best wishes to you and Weeble!
