My diabetic cat is lethargic and won't eat. Should I give insulin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 26 lbs

Male cat, 26 pounds, had glucose curve at vet today. Did not eat at vet so they didn't give insulin. 10 hours later, still hasn't eaten, looks lethargic and refuses food and water. Gave tuna, licked some juice. Have no corn syrup. Should he get insulin? Can I make a sugar water solution to inject?

Hi, I think you should check his blood glucose, which I think it’s going to be high. If you can’t because your vet is closed and you don’t have an emergency clinic nearby, I would give him half dose of insulin. Please get in touch if there is anything else we can do for you. Hope this helps.
