My pregnant dog has a low temp and swollen nipples. Is she in labor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 45 lbs

Hi, I am fostering a pregnant dog at the moment and they were not quite sure how far along she was but they predicted she had about 2 weeks to go, it’s been a week so far but I have been reading up a lot about labour and birth .. I just checked her temperature for the first time and it said 94 and her nipples are very swollen but no milk leakage, the puppies are very active any chance she could be going into labor ?

Yes, it could be possible Ali is going into labor. Keep an eye on her, and if 24 hours pass after this temperature drop with no sign of puppies, have her seen by a vet. I am concerned about this temperature, it is very low for a dog. A dog's normal temperature is between 101-102.5F. Make sure you are taking the temperature rectally and thermometer isn't inserted into any poop so you can get an accurate reading. Best of luck.
