Puppy takes long to eat and has soft poop after switching food. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 14 days old | 20 lbs

My puppy takes about an hour to finish his meal. Tonight he munched a bit, then played and came back, then played some more before finally sitting down to eat dinner. His poops have been softer, but we also just finished switching him on to a new food. does he not like it? We use Instinct with the dehydrated bits. He seemed to like it better than his last brand.

Some puppies can be slower than others to eat their food. Bodhi's poop can be softer due to the food switch. As long as he is eating all of his food, I wouldn't be concerned that it takes him an hour. Best of luck.
