My puppies are exposed to Parvo. Can I give them human meds for fever?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 26 days old | 37 lbs

Hello. I have 4 boxer puppies(25-37lbs) and sadly 2 of them got Parvo. The first one is at the vets since yesterday and her brother joined her today as well :( We still have 2 puppies at home and are very afraid that they will get it as well. Since the vet is closed overnight, I was wondering if there is anything we could give them if they get a fever until we can take them at 7 in the morning? Can we give them any 'human' medication for a fever? And if yes, can you please tell me the dosage?TY!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I’m so sorry to hear about your pups! I think it very likely that they will also get it, but if you can, keep them away from anywhere the other puppies have vomited or had diarrhea. Clean those areas that have been exposed with 9 parts water, 1 part bleach. As for the other part, fever is not a common sign of parvo. Vomiting and then diarrhea is most common. There are no human medications that are safe for dogs and nothing over the counter helps with parvo anyway. So long story short, no. Do not give them anything and if any of them stop eating, start vomiting, or have diarrhea, call ahead to the vet and get them in right away. Best wishes to you and the pups!
