Hi There, My dog is just 2 yrs old and she has developed a case of extreme bad halitosis (smells like fish) and she licks her private parts and paws mainly after eating - occasionally drags her tushy on the carpet and scratches uncontrollably. Stools are little hard and she does not suffer from diahrea and does not express gas. Took her for grooming and anus sacs are clean and skin looks good. She also takes flea and tick pills. I’m bewildered. My vet wants me to talk to a skin specialist.

I recommend to discuss ruling out a food allergy and hypothyroidism with your veterinarian .Without any further information it’s hard to know which is best but your regular veterinarian should be able to guide you. Food allergies are easiest to diagnose when pets have a proper diet trial with a hydrolyzed prescription protein. Thyroid disease is diagnosed with a straightforward blood test. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to post them. Best of luck.
