My senior dog is whimpering and restless after exercise. Is he hurt?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 10 years and 9 months old | 23 lbs

my 10 year old cocker spaniel/jack russell male dog was out running and fetching earlier this evening. on the way home he stopped to lie down a couple of times. now he is whimpering and not settling

It sounds like Max could be painful - he may have injured himself when exercising this evening. If he still seems painful in the morning I'd recommend seeing your vet for an exam. If he seems very lethargic or painful you may want to see a veterinarian tonight - they can determine whether or not he is painful and prescribe safe pain medication to keep him comfortable overnight.
