My dog is dry coughing and hacking like he's choking. What's wrong?

Why does my dog keep coughing? It sounds dry and he is hacking too. It started today. He sounds like he's choking. It has been happening for a while now. I don't know what is wrong with him. He was outside today and he has bad seasonal allergies so I thought that caused it but, i don't think it was that because it's still happening. I am very worried about him. Is he okay?Can you tell me what's going on? Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 6 years and 9 months old | 16 lbs

It could be Oscar has a respiratory infection or it could be something more serious like heart disease causing his coughing. I'd take him into the vet in the morning to be examined, diagnosed, and treated. Best of luck.
