My bird died suddenly. What caused black liquid on its beak and feet?

Last night I noticed something black on my birds feet and beak, it didn’t look like blood but it was some kind of liquid that had dried on him. He was sitting at the bottom of the cage and in the morning he had sadly passed away and I don’t know why. Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male
