A few weeks ago my dog was scratching her ear to the point that it was bleeding and scabbing over. She has flea/tick protection and no infestation. I've modified her food from NutroMax Chicken/Rice to Wholehearted Salmon Limited Ingredient to rule out any allergies. I've also been applying a topical hydrocortisone cream for dogs to the bald patch to keep it from itching. She's no longer scratching and it seems healed, but it's still bald and the patch is black. Will it heal on its own?

It's hard to say. It could be that you are now observing a scab and it could take several weeks to months for the hair to return fully. Keeping an eye on it and making sure Rosie doesn't scratch at it may help. However if the area doesn't appear to be improving, worsens, again, or seems to be infected or bothersome, a vet visit to rule out infections or other issues is best.
