Why is my cat peeing in the house and acting strange after a party?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 2 years and 2 months old | 6.8 lbs

We have 4 cats and 1 dog (oldest to youngest: potato, pickles, coalie, gino and mali-dog). Last year mid September we had my sons 16th birthday party at our apartment and had several cousins, friends and family over. It was after that party that we noticed that gino’s behavior started changing. Gino no longer liked to be touched or carried and he started pooping and peeing (even though they’re all toilet trained) in the house or outside the laundry area. We didn’t know why his behavior changed.

Poor guy. There are two most likely possibilities. One is that something scary happened to him during the party (kids being too rough or even just the noise being scary for him) or he has been ill for the past 7 months and is feeling poorly because of that. I would recommend starting with a vet visit to make sure he seems medically healthy, and talking them through the behavioral changes you've noticed to decide if he needs treatment.
