My older dog is limping 6 days after a paw injury. Is it broken?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 5 months old

Friends dog had foot shut in front door by over and half year old. Not fully shut because dog yelped. He walks on it for a few minutes then holds it up. This is 6 days later he's still doing that. Do you think it's broken? No obvious protrusions. He's an older dog and she's on a limited income as well. He is eating, drinking, and using the bathroom. He's roughly 9 years old Chihuahua. He will act fine for a couple minutes when gets up, but after 5-10 min walk holds injured leg up

Poor a Lilbit! It’s possible something is broken but something like a sprain or other injury is also possible. The fact that he has been doing this for six days means that he should see the veterinarian to check for any obvious breaks. There are a couple companies who offer financing to clients and they are care credit and scratch pay. Clients can go online to find out if they are approved for a line of credit. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.
