Dog on cortisone for bronchitis: Can I ignore her food begging?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | spayed | 6 years and 6 months old | 21 lbs

My dog is taking cortisone to treat bronchitis. It's been 5 days and she has to take it for 2~3 weeks (slowly going to reduce). She is really hungry and keep whining all day long for food even after I give her a little snack. She is 24lbs and I want her to lose weight since obesity is bad for bronchitis. Can I ignore her when she's whining or should I give her snack until the cortisone is over even though she will gain weight? Will ignoring her give her stress? Thank you.

It would be best to ignore her - the more you give in to the whining the more she will continue to beg. You’re correct - losing weight will definitely help with bronchitis. Think of her as a child asking for candy all day - she may actually be a little more hungry and want food but she doesn’t need more food. I don’t this this will cause undue stress.
