My cat makes crunching noises without opening mouth. Is it teething?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 months and 14 days old

My cat is making crunching noises while laying next to me lately, he is not showing on anything while making crunching noises nor is he opening his mouth, he eats normally and is not above biting his toys. Should I be concerned about these noises?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bosbos. Based on his age, I suspect that he is teething. Most kittens erupt their adult teeth between 4-6 months of age. If the noise continues or he has difficulty eating, then I recommend that he sees his veterinarian to ensure there is not another problem. I hope this information helps!
