My cat is hunched and not lying down after neuter. Is he in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 8 lbs

my cat just had his neuter and cryptorchid surgery today. he is displaying all usual post neuter behaviors but one that’s concerning is that he is hunched over and not laying directly on his belly. he is particularly mad about his e-collar but the hunching has me worried. vet gave him a pain killers after the surgery and told me next dose is tomorrow evening. i’m worried he’s in pain.

Papoose will be in pain from the surgery, but hopefully the pain medication the vet gave him is helping. I'm not surprised he's not laying on his stomach, it will be tender from the surgery. Keep an eye on him tonight, and if he is still this way in the morning, give his vet a call.
