My cat's chin is still irritated and scabbed. What topical can I use?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Turkish Angora | Female | 5 years and 10 months old | 10 lbs

My cat started scratching her face and ears until she was bloody and scabbed. A trip to the vet was no help. I started her on Cetirizine 5mg daily, and her face and ears healed well except for the area under her chin. For some reason that area is still affected. Would a topical medication help? Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!

Poor girl. : ( You can safely try Stridex pads along with a very thin layer of Neosporin or a topical antibiotic ointment from your local petstore. However, if it still hasn't healed well you should go back to your vet to see if another antibiotic can be tried or even consider a skin culture to find out what medication will be effective at clearing things up. Best wishes with your fur baby Marie and I hope that her chin area heals up well soon! Take care.
