Why is my cat's shaved paw turning blue after abscess surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

My cat recently went through an abscess drain surgery on his paw. The vet had to shave the fur around the injury. This was a week ago. Now the same spot on his skin is turning bluish, should I be concerned?

That is a little bit concerning, especially since it seems like there is a distinct line of demarcation associated with the blue color. It's possible that there is not good blood flow to the skin in that area from the injury. Since it's difficult to evaluate based on a picture alone I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian for an exam in person - it's also possible that this is nothing to be too concerned about.
