hello, I have a 7 year old golden retriever. One of his whiskers has been twitching for the last week. constantly, even when he is awake. what is causing this? thank you

That is hard to say. It’s possible there is some sort of irritation on that part of the muzzle or on the gum tissue underneath. Lift up his lips and look on the underside of the lips as well as the teeth for any obvious lesions or problems. Examine the exterior very closely for any thorns or anything abnormal. If you do not find an obvious reason, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian to be safe and check for any evidence of neurologic disease. I would not be too concerned about this as long as Nora is acting normally otherwise. However if you start to notice any redness around her muzzle, facial twitching or other changes then she needs to be seen by veterinarian. This could just be a sensitive whisker, a short spasm or normal behavior change for her.
