Why isn't my adopted dog pooping? Is it stress or constipation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 90 lbs

Just adopted a dog. They gave us his food & said he has 2bms a day. This is the 3rd day & no poop. He seems happy. Could it be nerves or reaction to the sudden & complete change?

Congratulations on bringing Charlie into your family! Certainly the new environment could be causing the condition. Take Charlie for a long walk twice a day. Walking can help to regulate the bowel movement. If he still does not have a bowel movement after three days he should see the veterinarian to check for constipation. Make sure he is drinking lots of water as not enough water can also cause constipation issues. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.
