My cat's tick bite is lumpy and weeping. Is it infected?

Hi there I’ve just removed with tweezers a large tick from my cats shoulder. I’m worried now it’s infected. I’ve researched and we’ve tried to clean it and put antiseptic cream on it but is there anything else I can do? Does this look like it needs treating? As I’m worried about it spreading disease or getting worse and making him really ill! It’s weeping and there is a large lump there too.

Hello. Your picture did not come through, but I would definitely err on the side of safety & have your vet look at the tick bite as soon as possible. Just based on what you have written, I would be inclined to prophylactically start Rocky on antibiotics. Continue to topically treat the area until you can have him seen. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
