Why is my Savannah cat breathing shallow, listless, and crying out?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Savannah Cat | Male | neutered | 30 lbs

Since yesterday afternoon, my spayed 8 year old male Savannah cat has been very quiet, listless and not purring. And once every several hours, he cries out. His breathing appears to be shallow and his fur not as soft. All this in less than 24 hours. Thank you for your advise and support in advance.

Lethargy and shallow breathing could be a sign of a fever, but can also be a sign of heart disease or asthma. Even though it has been less than 24 hours since these symptoms started any difficulty breathing warrants a trip to an emergency vet. They can check Jiimaa’s temperature and take x-rays of the chest or check blood work if indicated.
