My kitten's tail got shut in a door and looks bent. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi Dr. My 9 month yr old kitten got the end of this tail about 3 inches in, stuck in between the door. Window was open and slammed the wooden door shut. He let out a big yelp cry and keeps licking his tail and running away from me. He is hiding now. His tail seems to bend slightly. Looks a bit off like crooked but not so excessively. What should I do for my kitten at this point?

Ouch, poor kitty! It could be his tail is broken from being shut in the door, and he needs to be checked out by a vet right away. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.
