Dog has holes on infected skin. Is it a bite or self-inflicted?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male

My dog gets fungal infection for which doctor has prescribed some tropical creams. I just saw these holes on the infected spot. I am not sure if these are bites from another dog ( no other dog came near to him in our presence) or he has bit himself as he keeps chewing that area. Please help, as it’s late in the night and my vet’ Clinic is shut. We have applied betadine as of now.

Poor Bholu! That looks like it could be a bite wound, a ruptured cyst, a ruptured tumor or perhaps the exit wound of a fly larva. Regardless I recommend to take him in to the veterinarians as soon as you can. Also make sure to protect the area from additional trauma by making him wear an Elizabethan collar at all times. Make sure the area stays clean and dry. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.
