Can my cats with congestive heart failure be spayed or neutered?

I have a female n male cat that are 10 months old...are brother n sister and they both have congestive heart failure. They take Enalapril 2.5 mg and Furosemide 10 mg. Wanted to ask if tgey could be spayed or neutered with their condition. Thank you

That’s a really tough situation - I typically would not recommend elective surgery for an animal with a history of congestive heart failure, however the male could certainly breed with the female and she might not survive a pregnancy or if she did she could pass on the genetics for severe heart disease to any kittens. You may want to have a cardiologist perform an echocardiogram and determine the severity of the heart disease and perhaps neutering the male (since it is a simpler, faster procedure) would be worth the risk.
