My dog has scratches and won't get up. Is it a serious injury?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered

My dog disappeared for an hour. He came back with scratches on his face, and legs. He walked around most of the day after, but now refuses to get up. Planning on bringing him to the vet tomorrow, but I'm worried it's more serious than it seems. Any suggestions on what it could be? Could it just be muscle pain? There seemed to be a struggle

I'm concerned that Rocko is unwilling or unable to get up. He should be seen by a veterinarian immediately. It sounds like some trauma may be involved, and if something serious happened (such as being hit by a car) the initial signs may have been just scratches, but he may be dealing with internal injuries. Other possible causes could be a tumour or mass, muscular disease, toxin ingestion, endocrine disorders, trauma due to a fight with another animal, or neurological disease, all of which need a vet examination asap to start treatment.
