My dog is very sleepy on Rimadyl and Codeine. Should I call the vet?

Not sure if my last follow up question went through. My dog Luna was prescribed rimadyl as well as codeine. Will this account for her sleeping and lying down most of the day. She is usually active. She eats ok and when I take her out for potty Walks she walks good. But goes back to rest in her bed once she gets in the house. Should I follow up with her vet. Her last dose of rimadyl was today and codeine was last night. Thanks

The codeine could definitely be the culprit. Sedation is one of the main side effects. I would recommend calling your vet to discuss a lower dose, especially if her pain is well controlled. There are also many other medications that could be used instead to see if she tolerates a different medication better. Or, if the rimadyl alone is keeping her comfortable, you can discuss stopping the codeine. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach@
