My cat has scabies. Is Ascabiol with benzyl benzoate safe to use?

I'm sorry to hear that both Chiko and his friend have scabies! Scabies can generally be treated fairly easily with a topical prescription-based product, such as Revolution when used every 2 weeks for several treatments. I am sorry to hear about your kitty. Unfortunately it appears this product can be toxic in cats. I would wash your kitty with dawn dishsoap if he is alert enough not to inhale any liquid during the bath (don't bathe him if he is seizuring or unconcious) and call your vet right away for further information on treatment that will be needed. I do not recommend you use tetmosol soap on Casper, as it may lead to toxicity, and it would also take a very long time to be effective. I recommend you speak to your vet, as there are some options for treatment of mange in cats that are safer, easier, and much more effective.

I don't believe there are any over the counter medications that are safe to administer to a 4 week old kitten. Additionally, I'm not sure there are any that will kill scabies. Typically I use Advantage Multi or Revolution to kill scabies. You can get these from your veterinarian. Best of luck with your baby!

It is not recommend you use ivermectin yourself without the guidance of a vet - it is too easy to overdose. All you need to do is apply a product called Revolution (sealamectin - a derivative of ivermectin). It is a topical spot-on treatment you would use once every few weeks until the skin is cleared. You should be able to get this from the vet. Lime sulphur dip is fine to use but since cats don't tolerate bathing that well it will probably be a fight.

Hi Alan. I prefer topical like Advantage multi or revolution for cats because they tend to last longer and be more effective. There are also medications available orally like cap star and comfort is for felines! Hope this helps!

There are not many studies that show the lindane shampoo really works on dogs since it is a shampoo that is intended for human use. There are many different effective treatment options available to your that are safe for Tom to treat scabies. There are topical medications like selamectin (Revolution) or Moxidectin (Advantage Multi). There are also dips/bathing options like lime-sulfur dips weekly. Lastly, there are oral medications like bravecto and simparica. I would consult your veterinarian to see if any of these options are available to you given Tom's clinical signs. Good luck!

You received a highly effective preventive medication which also covers mites besides the ones you mentioned. Realize that your kitties probably are stressed out with the two moves, one away from the person they loved (yes hoarder kitties are loved too, and love their owner) to the shelter and then from the shelter to you. Give them lots of TLC and they will get used to their new home soon.

Flea treatment shouldn't cause too much more irritation to the skin, especially since it is mostly given just at the base of the head and no where else, if properly administered. I would recommend Revolution topical (Rx), because in my opinion it is the most effective and reliable treatment for fleas in cats. If Oliver has an overabundance of fleas on him and you need extra protection, then I would recommend giving him a Capstar (Nitenpyram) tablet 1 hr before applying the Revolution as a fast acting flea killer to reduce the flea load. Capstar kills all fleas on pets within 45 minutes after giving, then the Revolution is there to prevent further fleas from bothering him.

HI, thanks for using Boop by Petco! In the US Ascabiol/Lindane is not used. It can cause the symptoms you are describing. I can't find much on if this will be permanent for Zoo or not. All I can find is hours to days. If he is not eating or drinking he needs a feeding tube to give him time. If he doesn't eat that is just as life threatening. I am so sorry that Zoo reacted to this drug in such a horrible way.
