How can I stop the bottom of my dogs water bowl from getting slimy? I clean his bowls once a week and change his water daily but it still happens. Also, how much water should a 16lb dog be drinking daily? Thanks!

Hello, thank you for your question about Oscar. The dog bowl slime is likely from Oscar's saliva. It's very common for some saliva to end up the bowl due to the way dogs drink. I would recommend washing the bowl every day or so with a gentle dish soap and thoroughly washing it out. Depending on the material of the water bowl you could also try transitioning to a metal bowl to try and decrease the slime. The amount of water a dog drinks is dependent on a lot of different things such as their activity level, age, the temperature, etc. If you think that Oscar is drinking too much water - you are filling the bowl multiple times a day, he is drinking an entire bowl at once, or he is seeking out alternatives (such as the toilet bowl, etc) I would recommend having him seen by a veterinarian. Excessive thirst can be a sign of many underlying conditions. Hope this helps!
