My cat has skin patches, not ringworm. Why isn't treatment working?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 7.16 lbs

Hello my cat has been having some serious skin issues. We have taken him to the vet and they have suspected ringworm as a possibility but his skin lesions , fungal test don’t look like ring worm. He has many skin patches developing around his body, the vet has prescribed him an anti fungal but it has not been working. He is now on antibiotics. (Clavamox) and has a skin ointment ( quadritop) he does not show any other signs such as vomiting, or loss of appetite. I would like a second opinion.

I would do a few different things. First make sure Mani is on a flea and tick prevention. Then I would make sure he is on Clavamox (which he is). Putting an anti-fungal cream on him is not a bad idea. I would also put an ecollar on him if he is licking at the area. I would talk to your veterinarian about a steroid injection if he is scratching a lot. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
