Why does my Ragdoll cat's limbs stiffen and move strangely for minutes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ragdoll | Male | 2 years and 4 months old | 8 lbs

My cat had had 4 episodes where his limbs get stiff. He tends to put one paw straight up behind his ear. Back legs can get stiff and move out straight or pull into body. They last 1-2 mins. He’s fine afterwards. Maybe feisty sometimes. He’s a two year old Ragdoll.

This may be a seizure. Make sure he is in a safe place where he can't hurt himself, away from furniture or anything that can fall on him. If he seems to be recovering, call your veterinarian and let them know what happened. Keep a close eye on him, if he has another seizure on the heels of this one, then he needs to be seen by your vet right away. Sustained or repeated seizures can cause the body temperature to rise to dangerous levels and increases the risk of brain damage.
