My dog got salicylic acid in his eye. Is it dangerous? Should I rinse?

I accidentally touched my dog’s eye while there was a bit of salicylic acid left on my hands. Do I need to be concerned about my dog’s eyesight? Or will it just possibly irritate the eyes? Should I rinse them with water??

This could irritate Rocket's eye. Gently rinse the eye with cool water, and monitor it. If the eye becomes red and irritated, there is a discharge from it, he keeps the eye closed and has trouble opening it, and/or he rubs at it, have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Rocket is not showing any clinical signs since getting some of the medication in his eye, he will likely be OK. Signs of damage to the cornea include squinting, redness of the eye, and ocular discharge. As long as Rocket is not showing any of these signs, he will likely be just fine! No need to try to rinse them out. I hope this is helpful!
